{"id":678,"date":"2015-08-19T22:21:56","date_gmt":"2015-08-20T02:21:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.drfilm.net\/blog\/?p=678"},"modified":"2020-12-06T21:23:50","modified_gmt":"2020-12-07T02:23:50","slug":"the-invisible-man-returns","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.drfilm.net\/blog\/?p=678","title":{"rendered":"The Invisible Man Returns"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_679\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-679\" style=\"width: 316px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.drfilm.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/ireturns.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-679 \" src=\"http:\/\/www.drfilm.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/ireturns-236x300.jpg\" alt=\"ireturns\" width=\"316\" height=\"395\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-679\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">People from around the world gasp in spontaneous indifference at my absence.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>I haven\u2019t written a\u00a0blog in some time.\u00a0 In fact, it\u2019s been so long that Google has de-indexed me.\u00a0 I\u2019m getting emails asking for links to some of my best-loved blogs.\u00a0 (For what it\u2019s worth, those seem to be <a href=\"http:\/\/www.drfilm.net\/blog\/?p=58\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Plan 9 from Out of Sequence<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.drfilm.net\/blog\/?p=80\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Maureen O\u2019Hara Vs. the Egg People<\/a>, and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.drfilm.net\/blog\/?p=35\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The Marx Brothers Explain Copyright Law<\/a>.)\u00a0 There\u2019s a subtle plugola that might get just those blogs reindexed!<\/p>\n<p>People are also asking me where I am.\u00a0 I\u2019m on Facebook and on the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.drfilm.net\/blog\/?p=35\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Dr. Film Facebook page<\/a>, but no blogs.\u00a0 Why would that be?\u00a0 Well, frankly, I\u2019ve been underwater with work and I\u2019m only now coming up for air.\u00a0 Writing a blog like this takes concentration, and I\u2019ve been saving that for paying work.<\/p>\n<p>Let me answer the questions I have been receiving:<\/p>\n<p><b>Q1: Is <i>King of the Kongo <\/i>coming out on DVD\/Blu-Ray soon?<\/b><\/p>\n<p>A: No.\u00a0 There are extenuating circumstances and I can\u2019t go into them here.\u00a0 A Kickstarter campaign would not help.\u00a0 YouTube won\u2019t help.\u00a0 There are some problems.\u00a0 That\u2019s all I can say.<\/p>\n<p><b>Q2: Have you found any more sound discs for <i>Kongo<\/i>?<\/b><\/p>\n<p>A: No.<\/p>\n<p><b>Q3: Are you working on any more preservation projects?<\/b><\/p>\n<p>A: Yes.\u00a0 I\u2019m hoping to raise money for some.\u00a0 I\u2019m hoping that I can get <i>Little Orphant Annie<\/i>, the basketball films from Milan Indiana, and a film called <i>Little Mickey Grogan <\/i>restored.\u00a0 At the current time, all are having some problems.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_683\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-683\" style=\"width: 640px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.drfilm.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/IMG_1630-e1440038411492.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-683 size-large\" src=\"http:\/\/www.drfilm.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/IMG_1630-e1440038411492-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.drfilm.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/IMG_1630-e1440038411492-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.drfilm.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/IMG_1630-e1440038411492-scaled-400x300.jpg 400w, https:\/\/www.drfilm.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/IMG_1630-e1440038411492-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 709px) 85vw, (max-width: 909px) 67vw, (max-width: 984px) 61vw, (max-width: 1362px) 45vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-683\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">One of the reels of <i>Little Orphant Annie<\/i> awaiting the word to restore it!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><b><a href=\"http:\/\/www.drfilm.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/ireturns.jpg\"><br \/>\n<\/a> Q4: Are you doing crowdfunding for these?<\/b><\/p>\n<p>A: Maybe.\u00a0 Some of the issues involved are deeper than just funding; again, I can\u2019t go into them here.<\/p>\n<p><b>Q5: You keep talking about a video streaming project?\u00a0 Have you given up on that?<\/b><\/p>\n<p>A: No.\u00a0 We\u2019re moving forward on it and it\u2019s being developed.\u00a0 I\u2019m hoping to get a federal grant for it.\u00a0 I listened to what you guys said and I\u2019m going to try to fund a 501(c)(3) broadcast and streaming station that will be aimed at promoting literacy about older films and film preservation.\u00a0 If I can get it off the ground, it will be called VintFlix.\u00a0 We have the page reserved already.\u00a0 It will take more funding to get going than I can get on Kickstarter.\u00a0 I\u2019ve been in contact with the National Endowment for the Humanities and they are saying encouraging things.<\/p>\n<p><b>Q6: Is the Dr. Film show dead?<\/b><\/p>\n<p>A: It\u2019s not a bit well, but I wouldn\u2019t say dead.\u00a0 We are still talking about a podcast, but I haven\u2019t had time to do one.\u00a0 If VintFlix gets off the ground, then the Dr. Film show will be on it.<\/p>\n<p><b>Q7: You promised to write a blog on digital vs. film on the Facebook page, but you haven\u2019t.\u00a0 Where is it?<\/b><\/p>\n<p>A: I\u2019m working on it.<\/p>\n<p><b>Q8: You say you\u2019re busy.\u00a0 Does that mean you\u2019re making a lot of money?<\/b><\/p>\n<p>A: No, I\u2019m fulfilling obligations and doing publicity for other things.\u00a0 I would never recommend doing what I do unless you\u2019re unbalanced like I am and just need to do it for some reason.<\/p>\n<p><b>Q9: You\u2019re doing shows and personal appearances?<\/b><\/p>\n<p>A: Yes, a great number of them and in several cities this year.<\/p>\n<p><b>Q10: Are you appearing as Dr. Film?<\/b><\/p>\n<p>A: No, as myself.\u00a0 If you\u2019re interested in booking me, then you have my contact information in the Dr. Film main page or the email link at the upper right of this page.<\/p>\n<p><b>Q11: I saw your <i>King of the Kongo <\/i>presentation at (wherever you saw it).\u00a0 Can you bring that to my theater?<\/b><\/p>\n<p>A: Yes.\u00a0 Contact me. \u00a0 The episodes are available on film or DCP.<\/p>\n<p><b>Q12: I saw your show on the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.filmeric.com\/sfdp1\/color2.pdf\">history of color in the movies<\/a>.\u00a0 Can you bring that to my theater?<\/b><\/p>\n<p>A: Yes.\u00a0 Contact me.\u00a0 We have to do this one on film, and it doesn\u2019t work in a really huge auditorium.<\/p>\n<p><b>Q13: Are you affiliated with David Pierce and James Layton, who wrote the book on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/The-Dawn-Technicolor-James-Layton\/dp\/0935398287\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">the history of Technicolor<\/a>?<\/b><\/p>\n<p>A: No, but I know them.\u00a0 My presentation is entirely different from theirs, although theirs is quite good. \u00a0 I\u2019ve seen it more than once. (They discuss the history of the Technicolor company, whereas I show examples of many of the different processes, including Technicolor.
